A pre-warning to remain safe during the holidays

The holidays can be a very fun time. Its an excuse to hang out with friends, overindulge and make bad decisions without considering the consequences. And though I dont necessarily encourage those things, I do agree that its nice to embrace the season with such enthusiasm.

In efforts to create a memorable holiday sometimes our bad decisions can be fatal or near fatal. Driving safely is the number one activity we are warned about each year due to the increased amounts of drunk-driving accidents. So, before the season comes to fruition I would like to offer a couple introspective points.

First, is it really necessary to get drunk? Its one thing to go out, socialize and have a beer or two a couple hours before you leave, but why drink in excess if you know you will be leaving. And if you know you like to drink in excess, even though public transportation may not be safe in the wee hours of the night, you can come up with another plan to avoid driving drunk.

Second, auto-accidents are expensive and come with high consequences. Many people go into severe debt and bankruptcy during the often times lengthy lawsuits. Driving under the influence can result not only in accidents, and expensive settlements, but also jail, injury, and death.
