Happy New Year!

You don't have to resolve if you don't want to

Next year has the promise of some great occurrences. Some of us are going to lose weight, get a job, learn a language, or travel. At least, thats what we are telling people.

I love how the new year is a symbolic cleanse for most of us.  The world is our oyster at this very moment. We can resolve to do anything we want and feel good about ourselves before we binge on the nights offerings.

I know it is not quite 2009 yet, but I wanted to post this so we can all think about the things we want to do, as we behave badly for the last time in 2008. It will remain as incentive to think about safety before we head out to parties, or go back home. Even though you probably will not wake up on January 1 wanting to get started on your resolution, you do eventually want to get them started.

If you won the lottery...

Readjusting our priorities

What would you do if you won the lottery right now? Many people who would originally anticipate pursuing the American Dream of quitting their jobs in order to travel the world on their lottery winnings are now reconsidering this as a viable option. Since nobody really knows what to expect this year we are holding on to all of our money for dear life which is ironically the cause of many layoffs and putting many companies out of business.

In the past, we have seen many people squander their winnings on trivial matters, rather than making sound investments. But now, those of us who have decided to keep lottery tickets in our budgets are hoping to win enough money to pay off bills or move into a less expensive home.

The more pragmatic dream of opening up your own business or investing in the stock market is considered risky now that the economy is expected to get worse in 2009.

After the Dress...

Now that its just the two of you

After the dress, the wedding, the reception, the cake, and then the honeymoon you come back home and it is finally just the two of you and the one life you have decided to share together.

Now that the wedding is over, what do you do next? You go back to life as usual, except now you have taken on the ultimate symbolic gesture of linking your life with somebody elses. It is a truly beautiful thing, but the transition can be difficult. Everyone says that the first year of marriage is the hardest, even if you have lived together for years. So how do you know that you and your partner will make it past the obstacle course?

Well, know this. You are most likely going to have many fights about money this year. It may even be your first fight!

The only thing you can do is continue to love and trust each other, and be smart.

Resolutions

Remaining creative in the search for greener pastures

Due to writers block, I randomly typed "reward" in my Internet search engine and came up with several opportunities for people like you and I who are in a financial bind. If it is taking a while for your structured settlement to be finalized, you may want to consider these.

1- I came across a thought provoking press release in which a very popular nutritional supplement company will offer you $25,000 for keeping your New Years Resolution of gaining muscle.

Do people make their New Years resolution due to the New Year, or is it because it is the last day of a six-week long party?

Think about it. November and December offer six weeks of excess stress, family, eating and drinking. It is well known that people gain weight during this time due to those reasons but is a New Years Resolution the answer to the weight gain of the season? Or is it a promise to remain healthy throughout the year, even during the Holidays in November and December of 2009?

What now?

Having the courage to start over

Someone much older that I am had once told me that by the time you turn thirty you will realize that youre an idiot.

Now in no way did this person intend to offend me, or anyone else for that matter. His point was that in our youth, our 20s, we have our life courses planned according to what we think we want at the time, only to later realize that some of those things were not what we really wanted.

Upon reaching our thirties, our plans dont necessarily work out in the manner we expect.

Everybodys story is different. For some, their business didnt work out, while others may not have gotten married. And some have "successfully" arrived and dont know what to do next.

Whatever their reason, many chose to start over despite how scary and uncomfortable it is at first.

Some sell their structured settlements and take some time to go back to school, start their dream business, or to see the world.
